Introduction to Birch Syrup Production Workshop – April 19, 2008 (Quesnel)
Learn about the emerging sector of birch sap tapping and syrup making. Registration: $100.00. Includes a copy of "The Birch Syrup Production Manual - Tapping into Syrup Boreal Forest Style" and tasting some sweets of the sugar bush. 1/2 of the workshop will occur at an operating, commercial "sugar bush". "New Partners – New Opportunities " conference – March 6–8, 2009
The BC Association of Farmers' Markets, British Columbia AgriTourism Alliance and the Small Scale Food Processors Association have joined forces to create a unique 2-day industry development conference at The Cove Lakeside Resort in Westbank, March 6–9, 2009. The conference website is hosted on the BC Association of Farmers' Markets website (www.bcfarmersmarket.org/conference). An important feature of the conference will be discussion of regional partnerships and how agriculture and food organizations can work together more effectively to build a sustainable future for agriculture in British Columbia.

Natural fibres call for natural dyes. In conjunction with the Boundary Spinner and Weaver Guild, Joybilee Farm will host an indigo dye workshop/demonstration. Come to Joybilee Farm on Saturday and see hand woven shibori textiles dip dyed in a natural indigo fermentation vat. Try your hand at traditional shibori work and witness the magic of the natural indigo vat. Learn about woad and indigo and take home some seed to grow your own blues. No admission charge. Dye fabric, and farm tours available for a small fee. ART Sale of indigo dyed scarves and shawls, indigo dyed ikat yarns and natural dye kits. Open 10 a.m to 4 p.m. A part of the International Year of Natural Fiber 2009 events.

What do Egyptian mummies, Viking sails, M'Lady's corset, linseed oil, flax bread and linen towels have in common? Come to the Linen Festival at Joybilee Farm on August 8 and find out. This will be a fun and educational day. Our fiber flax field will be harvested. Every step from field to finished cloth will be explained and you can participate in breaking flax and hackling it ready for spinning. Spin some linen and even try your hand at weaving. Linen was an important crop in the Boundary area as recently as the 1950s. Several locally grown, hand spun and hand woven linen textiles are on loan, for your enjoyment, as part of this exceptional event. Petting zoo with baby llamas, goats and sheep. ART sale and artisan studio open. Artisanal flax seed bread also available for sale. Live music. $5 admission for the day (family rate: $20; Groups of 10 or more $4 each), includes refreshments. The whole family is welcome. Children under 6 years of age, free. Open 10 a.m to 5 p.m. A part of the International Year of Natural Fiber 2009 events.
